Nursing Today
Nursing is often portrayed as a glamorous job and a career
that many aspire to pursue. Like any other profession, a career in nursing has
rewards and challenges. Nurses have the opportunity every day to make a difference
in people's lives, to connect on a personal level with another human being, and
to be part of a profession that has stood the test of time throughout the ages.
Nursing is currently facing a crisis of a shortage of trained nurses. Hospitals
and medical facilities must address the issues of nurse retention and
increasing job satisfaction in order to overcome this crisis.
4 Major challenges in Nursing are listed bellow
1. Workplace hazards.
Nurses face a number of workplace hazards each day while just doing their jobs. These HAZARDS include exposure to blood-borne pathogens, injuries, hand washing-related dermatitis and cold and flu germs.3. Short staffing.
Staffing is an issue of both professionaland personal concern for nurses today. In fact, issues related to staffing levels, unit organization or inequitable assignments are one of the top reasons nurses leave a hospital job, according to Karlene Kerfoot, PhD, RN, vice president of nursing for API Healthcare.2. NOT ENOUGH TIME FOR BEDSIDE (QUALITY) CARE
3. Salary
The compensations Nurses receive depend on many factors.
Aside from specialty, their place of work tends to affect the salary they get,
as well. Having a higher degree counts as well. Salary is a common reason why
Nurses leave a hospital.
4. Long Work Hours
Nurses are often required to work long shifts. But in a
number of cases, nurses must work back-to-back or extended shifts, risking
fatigue that could result in medical mistakes.
